New Show About Past Lives

It premieres on FOX on February 9th at 9pm. It may vary by location, so check local listings. Hopefully it will be good, although FOX has a tendency to cancel good shows, almost like a reflex. But whether it lasts or not just the fact that they made a show about Past Life regressions on mainstream tv shows that reincarnation is becoming less of a taboo subject.

FOX? The ultra-right-wing TV network? That is quite unusual.

Not really, FOX will air anything that could make it money. For example they air The Simpsons, American Dad and Family Guy, all shows known for being very liberal. On all those shows they directly make fun of the FOX network itself. In Family Guy they had even had nazis wearing McCain-Palin campaign buttons and once said FOX owned Hitler's image and wouldn't have him slandered. If it will make them money they'll air anything. Though typically FOX cancels most quality shows pretty rapidly. I barely watch anything on basic cable really but I'm hoping this new show will bring reincarnation back into the spotlight.

FOX is different from the FOX news network however, which is it's own separate channel. That is the one that airs shows like O'Reiley Factor, Hannity & Colmes, Glenn Beck and all the other right wing pundit shows you hear about, pretty much 24/7, along with specials like how Islam will destroy the country or how history books are liberal propaganda to brainwash America's youth. Avoid that channel at all costs, it kills braincells, you'd do less damage to your brain by doing drugs.

Oh, I did not realize FOX and FOX "News" were two separate networks.

For a while neither did I. When people reffered to FOX News I thought they simply meant the daily news that comes on that channel each evening, like they do on every network. But there is also a FOX "News" network that plays right wing propaganda 24/7. That is not on basic cable though. Several other channels have branched out. There was a Family channel that became ABC Family which then became FOX Family as major networks branched out more. I'm not even sure who controls that channel now. But FOX and FOX News are separate channels. I always remember cause I remember seeing a shirt or bumper sticker that said "FOX News: Giving voice to angry white males since 1996!"

There's a fansite too- http://pastlife-tv.info/ . I watched the first episode tonight and thought it was pretty good. It was about a boy recalling a past life as a girl who was murdered, something I can relate to rather well! Did anyone else see it? What did you think? There's going to be another episode Thursday at 9pm.

Wow, Cayden Boyd has grown up! He is the actor who plays the boy who was a girl. He was the star of Sharkboy and Lava Girl and I have not seen him since.

Just finished watching it. The acting was often lacking (though I blame the director for it, not the actors), but the story was interesting. Though, I predict the show will not last long, as I suspect most people will not click with it.

I found it strange at first as it seemed to lead toward her being drowned in the Reflecting Pool which is rather unlikely considering it spans between the Washington Monument and Lincoln Memorial in Washington, DC, a place that is almost always surrounded by tourists as well as the police.

Yeah I was kind of wondering why they put that detail in there when it later turned out she was drowned elsewhere. It could be a good example of how past life memories aren't always clear and how you can jump to conclusions prematurely. Or of what you called a context transfer memory I think, right?

Did anyone see the second one on Thursday (which I guess is the regular time now, Tuesday was a special time)? When they had those electrodes hooked to the girl's head were they recording her thoughts and memories? I would sure love to have something like that. I could literally record my dreams, memories and ideas and not just in a book, but in full streaming color!

I'm enjoying the series so far but your right that it probably won't last long. As I said FOX loves to cancel shows, espicially thought provoking ones. It's sad, but on the IMDB boards there are tons of posts about how regression and past lives are a damaging form of insanity. Christian groups I'm sure are not thrilled. At least I got a few PMs to the contrary so I guess not all people are put off by the premise. It's a good sign though that a show focusing on spirituality in a non religious, non Christian context even got on the air at all, so maybe there's hope.

One last thing that kind of bugs me is that they keep misusing the word regressions. True they are kind of regressing to a past life, but what they have is more like sponteneous flashbacks or deja vu. Past life regression is generally undergoing hypnosis, which they haven't focused on yet. Also since the focus is on solving crimes the show will likely limit itself to more immediate past lives in the past few decades, although hopefully I'm wrong. It's only 2 episodes in so who knows what they'll do. What would be really bold is if someone regresses back to a really distant life and solves a historical mystery on the show, that I'd like to see. But budgetary concerns might limit the show from having to create past eras.

I once thought it might be interesting to have a show where each week the same person recalls different lives or different relevent parts of other lives to make sense of the present. But if you had your character in a different time period every week it would be expensive to build sets, wardrobes etc. for every different era and location they lived in.

No, that was a regular EEG.

They canceled it after two weeks, having aired just three episodes. At least Cayden Boyd got to show off his talent.

Disappointing, but as expected. I heard they are supposed to air the remaining episodes in the summer and they will probably release it on DVD. I wouldn't be surprised if religious people complained, though I haven't heard any reports of that. But they canceled God, The Devil and Bob for portraying God as a pot smoking hippy after 4 episodes, though I think that was on a different channel. It took 5 years for them to release the 13 episodes on DVD. Hopefully we won't have to wait that long for Past Life.

It seems only one episode aired last night. Did anyone see it, what did you think? It seems this show is a bit too focused on solving murders through past lives, most of the episodes have been pretty similar so far.
